Sycamore Farms is owned and operated by the Dodds family - Brian, Johanna, Annalyssa, and Paulina. We breed, show and sell some of the best Boer Goats available in the United States.  Sycamore Farms is located in Santa Cruz County, on California’s central coast in the agricultural community of Watsonville in the middle of the Fertile Crescent of the Monterey Bay.  With an average temperature of 67 degrees year around, and some of the most fertile soil on earth, everything grows well in Watsonville, including our ever-expanding herd Boer goats.

Sycamore Farms was one of the first Boer Goat breeders in California. We were one of the first to import the new South African genetics into the United States. We began in January of 1995 with the importation of our foundation buck Ubora, the ennobled Champion whose name means “the best” in the native language of South Africa. Ubora has lived up to that name by siring a long line of Champions.

Sycamore Farms organized and put on the very first Boer Goat show in California at the Santa Cruz County fairgrounds in July, 1998. The show was sponsored by the ABGA and IBGA, and sparked a thriving Boer goat show industry in the Golden State. In 2001, Sycamore Farms continued to support the industry by promoting one of two Junior Jackpot Livestock Market Goat shows at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in July, 2001. In addition to showing, Johanna Dodds has attended and passed the ABGA's South African Judging Seminars level 1 & 2. In the summer of 2001, Johanna became fully accredited as an ABGA judge and inspector.

Responding to environmental and fire-control concerns in the Golden State, Sycamore Farms has diversified its operation by using goats for vegetation management.  The goats are earning a living by happily wading through poison oak, blackberry and thistle, clearing pastures and making California more fire-safe.
